It’s no secret, we love cake (who doesn’t?). Wedding cake, birthday cake, Sunday afternoon cake, you name it. We have seen some beautiful wedding cakes in our years doing wedding photography, some simple and classic, others colourful and full of fresh flowers, from rustic wedding cakes to naked wedding cakes, we love to photograph them all.

Our hearts sink a little when your beautiful wedding cake is left in a dark dingy corner of your reception room at your wedding venue. Make a statement at your wedding reception with your wedding cake and display it well! From pretty cake stands to using foliage as a base, impress your guests with a unique cake display that they wont forget in a hurry. You could even go for a full on dessert table with cake pops, cookies or a selection of mini cakes.

After you’ve had your cake tastings (surely that’s the best bit about wedding planning right?!) and you have decided on your cake designer, talk to them about your ideas for your wedding, from the colours you will be using to the decoration at your venue. Your cake designer will be able to advise you on which kind of cake will fit in with your day, and of course they will be able to let you know how may tiers you are likely to need based on the amount of wedding guests you will be having.

Choosing your cake design should come after you have decided on your venue and the overall look for your day, you may love a rustic wedding cake but if you are hosting a black-tie event the theme won’t look cohesive. And if you are having an outdoor wedding in the summer, avoid buttercream or anything with meringue or whipped cream as they will melt.

We always find edible favours go down really well at wedding so you could always ask your cake designer to make you some personalised biscuits or cookies to match your wedding cake that can double up as place names AND favours, win win!
