It was May 2018. Their email read: “Hello! It would be great to know if you have availability on our date for our wedding at Upton Barn”. After a quick google we discovered Upton Barn & Walled Garden was the prettiest barn wedding venue in Devon we had ever seen! And we were available for their summer wedding. We had to reply to Sian & Richie ASAP….but we were in the Northern part of Corfu with the weakest internet connection, it took us 20 mins to even find Upton Barn on google! Next up was us running around town looking for a bar or restaurant with good wifi, we finally found a place by the beach, ordered an iced coffee, typed up a response and hit reply! And after speaking to Sian & Richie on our return home, we were over the moon when they booked us for our first wedding in Devon!

We met them back in March for their pre wedding shoot at Barry Island, being huge Gavin & Stacey fans ourselves we had a blast! From eating fish and chips by the beach to photographing these two beautiful souls by the sea, it was so much fun! You can see their photos here.

Fast forward to July 2019 and the wedding day started at Kentisbeare, Nr Cullompton where the couple were getting ready in the cutest rustic lodges. The groom was in good spirits surrounded by his groomsmen. The bride surprised him with a box full of personal gifts from cufflinks to some fun socks! After getting into his navy Ted Baker suit the grooms party all travelled to Upton Barn in the coolest vintage bus. As Richie is a police officer he had the most unique buttonhole made with a shotgun cartridge, we love those personal touches!

The bride was getting ready with her bridesmaids and family, there was a lovely relaxed atmosphere as they were all getting their hair & make up beautifully done. The brides stunning wedding dress by Kate Walker hung at the door ready for her to step into before stepping aboard the vintage bus to make her way to the most modern barn wedding venue we had ever seen, Upton barn.

The ceremony was held in the beautiful, fairy light adorned Cider barn. As Sian made her entrance, emotions were high and there were tears all around, it was such a special moment. As we had gotten to know the bride and groom really well, even we had to hold back the tears at this moment!! Readings were made and the vows were taken and everyone headed outside for one of our favourite parts of the wedding day, the confetti shot.

After some family photos everyone enjoyed a glass of bubbly whilst they made use of all the fun games the newlyweds had provided. From the giant Jenga handmade by the grooms dad to the giant noughts and crosses, everyone was enjoying themselves.

We took the bride & groom away for a few shots on the beautiful grounds at Upton barn. Holding their umbrellas and with horses strolling around in the background it was the epitome of an English country wedding. This is how rustic barn weddings should be!

They made their way into their reception which was held in the impressive Stable barn. Good food was served and the speeches were made. As ‘You’ve got a friend in me’ rang out, the newlyweds took to the dance floor and had their first dance. So romantic! As Richie proposed to Sian on a hot air balloon ride, the couple booked the most amazing hot air ballon photo booth where we grabbed a few photos of the bride & groom before leaving hem to enjoy their evening.
