Eucalyptus and Copper Italian Inspired wedding in Somerset
From Somerset to Scotland to the Isles of Sicily, burning orange coloured kumquats & the eucalyptus adorned details, Emily & Craig brought a touch of the mediterranean to the idyllic Somerset village of Porlock which nestles between Exmoor and the stunning coastline of West Somerset. Throw in the prettiest bridesmaids in the softest shade of sage and you have the scene set for this amazing Somerset wedding!
We arrived at the brides parents’ house on a beautiful August morning. Emily was enjoying a glass of bubbly whilst surrounded by her 4 bridesmaids. After having her hair made up, the prettiest floral crown was put in place. Her make up was beautifully done by Jenny Dyer and she was ready to step into her stunning wedding dress by Sassi Holford, she looked absolutely breathtaking.
Craig was getting ready with his groomsmen in the little Somerset village of Porlock. He was in good spirits as he put on his kilt and placed his sgian dubh into his sock, then made his way to All saints Church in Selworthy, the most idyllic church we have ever seen!
A classic Italian 1969 orange Saab arrived to escort the bridesmaids to the ceremony whilst a classic beetle, adorned with foliage, drove the bride and her father to the church.
It was a beautiful church ceremony full of love and the warmest smiles from the newlyweds. Everyone gathered outside with hands full of eucalyptus to throw high as the bride and groom made their confetti exit. As huge eucalyptus fans we absolutely loved the idea of using it as confetti! After some family shots on the lawn by the church we all made our way to the village hall in Porlock for the wedding reception.
Now, when we heard the reception was going to be held in the local village hall, we thought ‘Oh that will be nice’. Then we heard that it was going to be decorated in a Sicilian style with copper tableware and eucalyptus adorned details and our hearts did a little fist pump!!! There was an amazing copper table plan, the bride made the hoop table numbers and the chair hoops with foliage twisted around them. It was a little slice of Italy right there in the heart of the English countryside.
After the speeches were made, the bride took to the mic and sang ‘Somewhere over the rainbow’ with her father. What a moment! We don’t think there was a dry eye in the house. Everyone enjoyed delicious food and drink then relaxed with outdoor games until the evening reception began.
We took this opportunity to drive the bride and groom up to Exmoor for some stunning couple photos. As they were walking hand in hand across Exmoor, Emily with her incredible bouquet by Eden Weddings that smelt divine and Craig looking so smart in his Kilt, you could tell this was a moment none of us will ever forget. This is one of the reasons why we love being Somerset wedding photographers! Using the stunning backdrop of the Exmoor landscape was just perfect.
We headed back to Porlock and Emily & Craig cut into their beautiful crisp white wedding cake with touches of foliage and kumquats before taking to the dance floor for their first dance as husband and wife.
One last photo at their DIY photo booth and we left them to dance the night away in the loveliest Somerset village we have seen. Thank you so much Emily & Craig for letting us be a part of your amazing Somerset wedding. And we hope this inspires all of you who are planning your Somerset wedding as to the magic you can create for your own wedding right here in the South West.
