First Dance Song ideas - South West Wedding Photography
The first dance, a moment you will never forget. But how will you decide on such an important song? All first dance songs are usually pretty romantic but the right song will be the one that either has a personal meaning to both of you, or where the lyrics give you goosebumps every time you hear them.
If you have no idea where to start we are here to help! First of all decide if you want something slow and romantic, or something a bit more fast and upbeat to get the party started. A lot of our couples will take to the dance floor on their own for a few minutes and then invite everyone up to join them. Others have had dance lessons and they have taken centre stage until the first dance has come to a complete end. We know songs like Ed Sheerans ‘Perfect’ and John Legends ‘All of me’ have been very popular across the board for a few years, which is absolutely fine, but we think it’s nice to have something a bit more original and personal to you both.
To help you on you your way, here are a few lists of songs we have heard, songs we like and the song we had at our own wedding back in 2010!
If you are looking for something meaningful but will still put a smile on everyones face then these are for you:
You Got a Friend In Me-Toy Story
Better Together-Jack Johnson
Love Me Like You Do-Ellie Goulding
For songs with a bit more feeling with beautiful words have a listen to these:
If I Ain’t Got You-Alicia Keys
Kiss Me-Sixpence None The Richer
Just The Way You Are-Bruno Mars
If you want something a little more upbeat to get everyone joining in then these are great choices:
I Will Wait-Mumford & Sons
Marry You-Bruno Mars
Signed, Sealed, Delivered I’m Yours-Stevie Wonder
And for a touch of pure romance, these songs will send a shiver down your spine:
Lover Of The Light-Mumford & Sons
A Thousand Years-Christina Perri
Wings-Birdy (We dare you not to get goosebumps when she sings the part “We’d remember tonight for the rest of our lives”
And finally the song we had at our own wedding. We were going to have Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol or To Love Somebody by The Bee Gees but we decided on Iris by The Goo Goo Dolls. Every time we hear it now it brings back wonderful memories of our beautiful wedding day in Greece. Oh and we had Alex Parks version of Coldplays ‘Yellow’ as we entered our evening reception, but we will talk more about music for the rest of your wedding day another time……
