So you have found a couple of different wedding photographers who’s work you love, they are available for your date and you have arranged to meet them. But how do you know what questions you need to ask your wedding photographers? Here is a list to help you on your quest to find your perfect wedding photographers.

Can I see a full wedding gallery? Everyone shows the best of the best of their work on their website and social media, but what will a real wedding look like if you book them? If you see a full wedding gallery you can get a really good idea on the kind of photos to expect from them. Are they the kind of images you want for your day?

Are all the photos on your website/Instagram/Facebook your own work? It’s so easy to curate a beautiful Instagram or Facebook feed with other people’s work. In our opinion, especially for photographers, you should not be using anyone else’s work on your website or social media but your own. Unless you are an inspirational account, say Brides magazine, Rock My Wedding or similar, then you should be showing your own work. Some companies have multiple photographers in their team so make sure you are clear on the work of the photographer who will be shooting your day. And ask exactly who it is that will be photographing your wedding so you can speak to them directly.

What time will you arrive on the day and how long will you stay? Some photographers, like us, have set hours so it’s clear how long we will be with you on the wedding day.  Other photographers may state ‘All day coverage’ so be crystal clear on how long you will get them for. Ask what is included in their packages, how many images will you receive? And how long until your photos are delivered to you?

What is your back up plan if you are unable to attend on the day? We are all human and emergencies arise for all of us from time to time, but what is their plan if they are unable to make it to your wedding? Nobody wants to be left without a photographer on the day so double check how they will proceed in an emergency.

Do you have insurance? It’s very important your wedding photographers have Pubic Liability Insurance. A lot of wedding venues will require your photographers to have this so make sure you ask at the first meeting to avoid confusion down the line. And make sure you get a contract, every wedding photographer should have their own contract, make sure to read it thoroughly so you are happy with the service they provide.

How would you describe your photography style? A lot of people believe all wedding photographers are the same, this couldn’t be more further from the truth! Some have a very dark and moody style, others like us have a more light and colourful style. Some wedding photographers will heavily direct and pose you throughout the whole day, others like us take a more documentary type approach. Make sure you are 100% happy with their style of photography and how they approach the wedding day as asking for a different photographic style later on will cause an issue.
