Choosing your Wedding Photographers

You’re engaged, congratulations!!  Enjoy the moment for a while, when you are ready to start wedding planning, where do you even begin choosing your wedding photographers? From documentary photography, to reportage photography, how do you choose the right wedding photographers for you? We are here to give you our top 7 tips and advice on what should you be looking for in your wedding photographer.

1: Set your budget- some photographers charge £400 and some charge £4000 and everywhere in-between. Work out what is most important to you, are photos your top priority and you would like full day coverage? Or do you just want some snaps of your ceremony? Work out how long you would like your wedding photographer with you on your day then set a realistic budget.

2: Start searching for a wedding photographer with the style of wedding photography you like, are you looking for light & airy wedding photos full of love & laughter? Or are you more a dark & moody lover? Do you like lots of colour, or are you more a black & white fan? Work out what style you love then you can start that search

3: Once you have found a few wedding photographers you like, scan their website & facebook pages. Are their images consistent? Look at previous clients reviews, are they consistently good? Don’t disregard a wedding photographer for one bad review, but if there is a bad review after another, be cautious!

4: Book early! Good photographers can get booked up to 2 years in advance, especially for popular dates. We had to turn down 5 weddings last year for the weekend of 5th August as we were booked. As soon as you have your venue booked, start hunting them good wedding photographers down!

5: Ask to see the photographers contract and T&C’s. They are very important to protect both you and the photographer. Make sure you read everything in their terms and conditions before signing, ask questions, make sure you are happy with the timeframe for the turn around of receiving your final images, check how many final wedding images you will receive.

6: Make sure you like your wedding photographers! Sounds silly but your photographers are with you for one of the most important days of your lives and it is so important you feel comfortable around them. If your wedding photographer makes you feel awkward or uncomfortable in any way, it will show in your wedding photos! We love to meet our couples for a coffee beforehand for us all to get to know each other, or we will FaceTime to have a good old chat!

7: Make sure you know exactly who will be photographing your day. Some companies have multiple photographers so ask to meet whoever will be photographing your wedding day.
